Blender – BlenderGIS v2.2.8: Utilizing the BlenderGIS Addon streamlines, importing various maps, including satellite imagery, displacement maps, and building geometry, directly into Blender. While reminiscent of the Blender-OSM addon, BlenderGIS offers distinct features, such as selecting the desired area directly within Blender instead of using a browser. Although BlenderGIS lacks building textures, it compensates with additional tools not in the Blender-OSM addon.
BlenderGIS Addon Workflow:
1. Add Basemap:
- Navigate to the Top menu of the 3D viewport and select GIS > Web geodata > Basemap.
- Choose the desired source, such as Google and Satellite, and click OK.
- Adjust the view using the scroll wheel for zoom and the Shift+middle mouse button for panning.
- Press B to make a selection on the world map and then press E to confirm the selection, cropping the map accordingly.
2. Add Elevation:
- In the top menu, select GIS > Get Elevation (STRM), choose the preferred option, and press OK.
- Modifiers may not show significant displacement for flat areas, but two modifiers will be visible.
3. Add Geometry (Buildings):
- Select the map, go to GIS in the top menu, and choose Web Geodata > Get OSM.
- Choose the desired geometry options by holding Shift for multiple selections.
- Enable Elevation from objects for accurate building placement based on displacement.
- Press OK and wait for the import process.
Following these basic steps, users can efficiently import maps, elevation data, and building geometry into Blender using the BlenderGIS Addon.
