I'm Tracey, an illustrator, photographer, and designer based in Chicago, and I'm excited to guide you through this class. Throughout the Pattern Toolkit series, we'll explore various patterns and themes in Affinity Designer V2 and Adobe and Procreate. Each lesson ensures you gain a new design for your portfolio and acquire valuable experience in tools that extend your creativity in surface pattern design and beyond.
In this inaugural class, we'll specifically use Affinity Designer V2 to craft three captivating circular geometric patterns:
- Circular Petal Pattern
- Bullseye Pattern
- Metaball Pattern
Tools employed in this class include:
- Move Data Entry Feature (exclusive to V2 of desktop)
- Shape Builder
- Transform Studio
- Artboards
- Fill Tools (Vector Flood Fill & Gradient)
Prerequisites for this class:
- Affinity Designer V2 (desktop or iPad) (Note: Certain tools used are exclusive to V2 of Designer)
While I'll be using the desktop version of Affinity Designer V2, most tools covered are accessible on both the iPad and desktop versions, with the Move Data Entry feature being an exception. For iPad users, I'll guide you through the traditional power duplicate method.
Although this class is beginner-friendly, it assumes some familiarity with Affinity Designer V2 and the surface pattern design process. Please be aware that we won't review the interface in this class, so a basic understanding of tool locations is essential.
