
Anime Character Design with Pencil and Watercolors: The expressive style of anime characters with watercolor fluidity gives us a unique blend. In this class, we'll go through the various stages of creating, drawing, and painting your anime character from scratch, ending with a completed work.
In this session of creative exploration, we'll begin designing our anime character and creating it with watercolors. The process begins with creating a mood board, arranging references to establish the tone, and looking for the character's style. Then, we'll select the right facial features, talk about the facial proportions, sketch out thumbnails and color studies, draw the character, transfer it, if necessary, practice various techniques with watercolor, and then paint our work.
I'll explain a simple method I've used to create anime characters. I've also had reservations about creating fan art or creating my characters. However, it became enjoyable once I streamlined each step into manageable steps.
Now, I am finding immense pleasure in creating fan art and creating my characters. It's gratifying to see your design take shape.
Learn how to express your imagination on paper by drawing your characters with color using basic drawing techniques and techniques for watercolor painting, such as dry on wet, Wet on Wet layers, softening edges, and correcting any mistakes.
What can we expect to learn during this course?

- The first step is to collect images of reference using apps such as Canva or Pinterest to help you find inspiration. You can also do it the traditional route and print the images.
- We'll then mix and mix facial features to suit our persona. These facial features will vary based on the character you want to portray a fairy, princess fighting, villain, or schoolgirl.

- Once we've decided about the overall look, the character will make thumbnail sketches and color studies.
- After that, drawing the character and transferring the sketch is the next step.
- Before coloring our drawings, we will try watercolor rendering techniques to help us become comfortable with painting.
- Then, we'll bring the persona to life using watercolor pencils or watercolors.
At the end of this course, you'll be proud to have created your character from anime that reflects your preferences regarding colors, costumes, and overall look.
Who does this class serve?
- Anyone who wants to learn how to draw and paint their character from anime is invited to this workshop. A basic understanding of drawing and working with paintbrushes is required to make the most of the class. However, hobbyists and beginners are welcome to come along.
- You can also use any coloring supplies you wish after drawing your character. I even used watercolor pencils at the end of drawing my character to achieve the typical anime look, using dark lines. You can also use colored pencils or markers are sufficient, or you could paint thin lines using brushes as well.
