Mononodes - The Lighthouse Reverse Engineered:
The visual aesthetic of The Lighthouse is rather well known in the industry; the custom filters established during the production were intended to look like early-1900s orthochromatic film stock. Ortho film stock was particularly sensitive to ultraviolet, blue, and green light and nearly omitted red light. One might think that using the RGB Mixer to drop the red channel to its lowest levels would get the job done, but in the end, reducing it wasn't as impactful as one thought. For a more technical approach to the orthochromatic look, interviews with the Cinematographer Jarin Blaschke give more specific details.
The camera used for production was a Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2 with Bausch & Lomb Baltar, Pathé & Petzval lenses. The negative format was 35 mm Eastman Double-X 5222. The master format was 4K digital intermediate with a spherical source format. The presentation format was D-Cinema.
The production companies responsible for creating it were A24, Regency Enterprises, and RT Features,. At the same time, A24 was responsible for distributing the U.S. version, VVS Films did so for Canada and Focus Features/Universal Pictures took on international distribution.
