My Fonts - Rotis Semi Serif Font Family:
The Rotis Semi Serif Font Family encompasses an entire family of fonts with a Sans Serif, Semi Sans, Serif, and Semi Serif aspect. The complete family includes 17 weights (with italics) and was created by Otl Aicher for Agfa in 1989. Aicher intended to create a style that honored the simplicity of Sans Serif and playfulness of Serif and thus, from an innovative approach, brought forth this highly legible typography family. The Semi Sans is the most rounded, while the Semi Serif has swells to the strokes, and the Semi Serif suggests thin serifs, although it lacks them entirely. The actual Serif has strokes with mostly vertical axes, which gives it a new appearance entirely.
This font is known as a European standard, synonymous with much of the European design that one comes across. It has been noted as rationally aesthetic yet captivating with a famous cap C and lowercase c and e, which have hooks at the top, serif-less bottom portions, and underslung curves at the body. It initially debuted with a questionable reception but transcended the understanding with successful usages in book text, extensive business reports, advertisements, corporate annual reports, signage, and more. It was named after the village in southern Germany where Aicher lives. The font is available today with pan-European character set options.
