MyFonts - Avenir Font Family 12xOTF:
The Avenir Font Family is a geometric sans serif remaster by Adrian Frutiger of the early twentieth-century geometric sans serifs. This Frutiger impulse was to create a family that would suggest success and visual attraction of old types while blending a contemporary feel for the twenty-first century. He accomplished this through a geometric typeface with a slight intervention in a rounded, humanistic presence that rounded harsh edges often present in geometric designs. Thus, this family was polished and rounded slightly, but also crisp and clean where needed. The effectiveness of this elegant, functional family is demonstrated by titles at the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport and signage at Hong Kong International Airport. In addition, in 2003, the city of Amsterdam selected the Avenir type family as its corporate typeface.
The Avenir Type Family does not have a design family apart from the above-mentioned slight weight changes, except for what's noted above, which speaks volumes to the non-distracting versatility and timeless nature. For example, book and light are similar strokes but have slight variances in weight for body copy and captions/subtitles. Book is suggested for body copy, while light assists where smaller point sizes should be used.
