BY-GEN is a generative toolset for the artist interested in generative works within the Blender universe. The latest release is 10.0.0, which notes only an import crash fix for Mac and Linux users running Blender 3.4. 9.0 has been known to be a modular, extensible endeavor with a lot of addable content packs. Thus, not only can artists create their packs for in-house use or sharing with others, but they can charge for their unique content-generating packs/art opportunities as well.
The primary intention of BY-GEN was to allow for a collection of modifier templates that would enable users to generate cool, parametric shapes simply by changing the settings of the punch-in controls of the modifier stack. Since then, BY-GEN has boasted more and more impressive additions, such as branched and layered generation and a plethora of fun operations. The newest and best addition is generation through geometry nodes.
Geometry nodes allow BY-GEN to generate advanced scattering capabilities, new displacement options, and structural generation opportunities that never existed before. Generation through geometry nodes will, over time, take the place of all original rigid modifier-based generation. But it will do so over time as BY-GEN takes cues from the evolving larger Blender universe. Therefore, BY-GEN is a reactive TYPE of tool, taking stock of what Blender becomes over time.
