VINTAGE FILM EFFECTS | OLD FILM TEXTURE
Digital footage often looks too clean when you're trying to recreate the character of old film. Real film has its own imperfections, from visible reel markers and light flashes to countdowns and rough transitions. FILM ARTIFACTS by Sickboat brings these details into digital video editing through a collection of authentic film overlays.
The pack includes more than 70 real film artifacts captured from old film reels, along with over 400 JPG images. With 8K resolution and both 16mm and 35mm film textures, you can create anything from a subtle vintage appearance to a rough, heavily distressed grindhouse style.
Bring the Look of Real Film Into Digital Footage
What makes this collection interesting is that its effects come from actual film materials rather than digitally recreated textures. The film leaders, markers, and other artifacts preserve the irregular details associated with physical film reels.
The collection is also modular. You don't have to apply an entire vintage effect to your footage. You can choose individual elements, combine different overlays, and control how much of the film texture appears in your edit.
For a cleaner retro look, you might use a few film markers or occasional flash frames. For something more experimental, you can combine film leaders, countdowns, and transitions to give the footage a more damaged, analog appearance.

What's Included in Film Artifacts?
The pack contains several categories of film effects, each designed to recreate a different part of the traditional film experience.
| Film Element | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Head & Tail Film Leaders | Recreates the beginning and ending sections of physical film reels |
| Old Film Countdowns | Adds classic 16mm and 35mm countdown sequences |
| Cinemarkers | Introduces colored film markers associated with physical film reels |
| Flash Frames | Creates sudden flashes of light between shots |
| Punch Hole Transitions | Uses film perforation details as transitions |
| Film Splices | Recreates the appearance of joined film sections |
| Scotch Tape Transitions | Adds tape-like details associated with physical film editing |
| Camera Start & Stops | Recreates visual artifacts from starting and stopping film cameras |
These elements can be used separately or layered together, depending on the style you're creating.
Authentic Film Leaders and Old Film Countdowns
Film leaders are among the most recognizable details of traditional cinema. They were originally used at the beginning and end of film reels, but their visual characteristics have become a popular part of vintage video editing.
Sickboat includes authentic universal film leaders, head leaders, and tail leaders sourced from thousands of feet of old film reel material. The footage has been overscanned in 8K to preserve the original details.
Both 16mm and 35mm film textures are available, giving you different options for recreating the appearance of physical film.
The collection also includes more than 10 types of old film countdowns. These can be placed directly into your editing timeline to create classic countdown sequences before a video begins or between different sections.
They're particularly suitable for retro introductions, music videos, experimental edits, and projects inspired by older cinema.
Colored Cinemarkers for a More Creative Film Look
Cinemarkers, also called film markers, are one of the more distinctive elements in this collection.
These markings recreate the appearance of film moving through a physical reel, adding a recognizable analog detail to otherwise clean footage.
The pack includes markers in six colors:
Red
Blue
Green
Yellow
White
Black
The different colors give you more control over the visual style. You can select markers that complement the footage or use contrasting colors to create a stronger effect.
Unlike a complete film filter, these individual markers can be placed where they're needed without changing the appearance of the entire video.

Film Transitions, Flash Frames, and Splices
Not every vintage film effect needs to cover the whole screen for an entire shot. Sometimes, a brief transition is enough to introduce the feeling of physical film.
Film Artifacts includes several transition elements inspired by the imperfections of traditional film editing.
Punch hole transitions use the visible perforations associated with film strips, while flash frames introduce sudden bursts of light that can separate shots or emphasize a cut.
Film splices and Scotch tape transitions recreate the appearance of physical film sections being joined together.
The camera start and stop effects add another type of analog detail, making footage feel as though it was recorded using a traditional film camera.
These effects are well suited to fast-paced edits, music videos, vintage montages, and transitions between different scenes.
8K Quality and Flexible Editing
One of the main advantages of this pack is the resolution of its source material.
The film artifacts are provided in 8K resolution (7680 × 4320), offering plenty of visual detail for high-resolution video projects.
The collection includes:
70+ real film artifacts covering different types of film imperfections and transitions.
400+ film artifact JPG images for incorporating film details into visual projects.
Modular elements that can be combined and customized individually.
Drag-and-drop editing with a simple blend mode workflow for adding overlays to footage.
The modular approach is particularly helpful when you want to build a specific film aesthetic rather than rely on a single preset.
