Classic Film Colors for Modern Video Editing
Film has a unique way of showing colors that can be hard to recreate with simple editing tools. Warm highlights, natural skin tones, soft shadows, and balanced contrast give videos a more cinematic look.
But the same look doesn’t work for every video. For example, a wedding video might look better with soft, romantic colors, while a travel video could use stronger contrast and warmer tones.
Film Editions: Volume 1 by Gamut is a collection of film emulation LUTs designed to bring classic analog color styles into modern video editing. Inspired by traditional film stocks, negative scans, and print processes, the collection offers different ways to create a film-inspired appearance while keeping colors natural and adaptable.
Explore 10 Film Looks with Different Color Characteristics
The collection includes 10 carefully developed film looks, each available in two color space versions: Rec.709 and DaVinci Wide Gamut (DWG). This gives you 20 LUTs in total, allowing you to choose a suitable version for your color grading workflow.
The looks are inspired by three recognizable film families: Gold 200, Portra, and Vision3. Each offers a different approach to contrast, color density, highlights, and shadows.
Gold 200 – Warmth, Nostalgia, and Photographic Contrast
Gold 200 includes three variations, each with its own visual character.
Gold 200 (C36): Creates a warm cinematic print look with rich contrast, golden midtones, cooler blue shadows, and smooth highlight transitions. It works well for footage that needs a nostalgic motion-picture atmosphere.
Gold 200 (N34): Offers a softer negative-film appearance with lifted blacks, gentle contrast, and natural sunlit colors. A good choice for lifestyle videos, travel footage, and everyday scenes.
Gold 200 (P55): Produces a polished photographic print style with stronger contrast, clean whites, rich reds, and clear color separation. It gives footage a brighter, more finished analog appearance.
Portra – Natural Skin Tones and Soft Film Colors
The Portra looks focus on gentle contrast, controlled warmth, and a softer photographic appearance.
Portra 400 (P41): Combines soft contrast, natural skin tones, subtle warmth, and gentle green separation. It is particularly suitable for portraits and people-focused footage.
Portra 800 (P31): Features faded blacks, creamy highlights, warm greens, and delicate skin tones. Its airy, romantic appearance makes it a good option for wedding films, portraits, and intimate scenes.
Vision3 – Multiple Film-Inspired Variations
The collection also includes five LUTs inspired by Vision3 film stocks:
Vision3 250D (C34)
Vision3 250D (C46)
Vision3 250D (C58)
Vision3 250D (N37)
Vision3 500T (N49)
These additional looks expand the collection beyond Gold 200 and Portra, giving colorists more film-inspired options to explore. The supplied product information does not specify the individual color characteristics of these five variations.

Rec.709 and DWG Support for Flexible Color Grading
One important feature of Film Editions: Volume 1 is that every film look comes in two versions.
Color space | Description |
|---|---|
Rec.709 | Designed for Rec.709-based color grading workflows |
DaVinci Wide Gamut (DWG) | Designed for workflows using DaVinci Wide Gamut |
The LUTs are provided as .cube files, a commonly used LUT format supported by various video editing and color grading applications.
Because the collection includes both color space options, editors can select the version that matches their working color space rather than relying on a single LUT configuration.
Compatible Video Editing Software
Film Editions: Volume 1 supports several popular editing applications:
Adobe Premiere Pro
DaVinci Resolve
Final Cut Pro
CapCut
VEGAS Pro
You can load the appropriate .cube LUT into your editing software and apply the desired film look to your footage.
For footage recorded in LOG, Gamut also offers separate BaseLUTs for color space conversion. These are presented as a separate product rather than part of the Film Editions collection.
Where Can You Use These Film Emulations?
Different looks in the collection suit different visual styles and projects.
For travel and lifestyle videos, Gold 200 (N34) provides soft contrast and natural sunlit colors, while Gold 200 (C36) creates a warmer, more cinematic atmosphere.
For portraits and wedding videos, Portra 400 (P41) gives you natural skin tones with a warm look. If you prefer softer blacks, smooth highlights, and more romantic colors, you can try Portra 800 (P31).
For creative films and cinematic edits, Gold 200 (P55) delivers stronger photographic contrast and more pronounced color separation.
The main advantage of this collection is its range of film-inspired color treatments. Rather than applying one universal vintage filter to every video, you can choose between softer negative-style looks, richer cinematic prints, and warmer photographic finishes based on the footage and the mood you want to create.
