Bodiez: Customizable Male & Female Base Meshes
Creating a character in Blender often begins long before clothing, sculpted details, or final styling. You first need a body with the right proportions and silhouette. Bodiez provides adjustable male and female base meshes designed to make this starting stage more flexible.
Instead of creating a new base mesh every time you want a different body, Bodiez lets you keep working with the same one. You can change the body shape and proportions, try different poses, and continue editing it with Blender’s regular tools.
Build the Body Around Your Character
Bodiez includes separate male and female Blender files. Both bodies come with Rigify-based rigs and controls for changing their proportions.
The main adjustments include:
Head size
Body type
Body size
Shoulders
Short/tall proportions
Hips
Arm size
Leg size
The female body also includes breast controls.
These parameters are available through a dedicated panel, so proportions can be changed without moving individual vertices. This makes it practical to compare different silhouettes before committing to clothing, sculpting, or other character details.
Body Types and Shape Keys
Bodiez uses shape keys to provide several starting body types, including regular, thin, muscular, and heavier builds.
You can blend these shapes through Blender's Shape Keys panel rather than creating a separate base mesh for each variation. Combined with the proportion controls, this gives you two levels of customization: the overall body build and the proportions of individual areas.
For example, you can change the body type and then independently modify height, shoulders, hips, head size, arms, or legs while keeping the same underlying mesh structure.
Pose and Adjust in the Same Setup
The included rigs allow the male and female bodies to be posed directly in Blender. You can move the rig controls into the pose you need and continue adjusting the body sliders afterward.
A simple workflow can look like this:
Choose Male/Female Base → Adjust Body Type → Refine Proportions → Pose → Add Modeling, Sculpting or Clothing
This setup also makes it possible to evaluate proportions while the character is already posed rather than judging the design only from a neutral stance.
No additional Blender plugin is required to use the prepared files.
Quad Topology Designed for Customization
The topology is built specifically around Bodiez's shape keys and proportion controls. It uses a quad-based layout with edge flow intended to support changes in body type and silhouette while maintaining the same mesh structure.
Once the desired body shape has been established, the mesh can serve as a foundation for additional modeling, sculpting, or clothing.
This consistent topology is particularly relevant when exploring multiple character variations because changing the body does not require switching to an entirely different mesh.

Exporting Shape Keys as Morph Targets
Bodiez is not limited to adjustments made inside Blender. Its shape keys can be exported as morph targets for use in compatible tools.
| Export | Example Use |
|---|---|
| GLB | Three.js web apps and character configurators |
| FBX | Unity and Unreal workflows |
This means the adjustable body shapes can remain useful after export. A character configurator, for example, can use exported morph targets to provide body adjustments outside Blender.
Using Bodiez for AI-Assisted Character Concepts
A customized and posed Bodiez mesh can also serve as a visual reference for AI-assisted character exploration.
After setting the body proportions and pose in Blender, you can render the base and use that image to explore different directions such as outfits, hairstyles, expressions, and environments. This provides a way to test visual concepts while keeping the underlying pose and body design as a reference.
What's Included
The package contains two Blender files:
Male base mesh with its rig and controls
Female base mesh with its rig and controls
Both use Rigify-based rigs and include the body customization setup described above. Everything works from the prepared Blender files without requiring an additional plugin.
Bodiez gives you a ready-made starting point for creating characters. Choose a body, adjust its shape and proportions, set the pose, and then continue working on the character in Blender or export it for use in other compatible workflows.
