Give Your Footage a Film Look Without Losing Natural Colors
Achieving a cinematic film look can be a delicate process. If you over-apply the grade, then skin tones can start to appear unnatural. Conversely, if you keep the grading too neutral, then your footage might lack the desired character and atmosphere.
Nostalgia III Blackmagic consists of creative and conversion LUTs which aim to simplify this process. These LUTs impart a cinematic film look onto your footage whilst preserving natural skin tones and colours. They are ideal for achieving a finished look with minimal time spent on creating a cinematic look.
Whatever type of footage you are grading (film, commercials, travel, interviews, or footage from different camera systems) this pack can serve as a great starting point for achieving a consistent film look.
What Does Nostalgia III Blackmagic Do?
Nostalgia III Blackmagic is designed to take footage shot in LOG or RAW and give it a more film-like appearance. Rather than just aggressively coloring the footage, these LUTs are created to give you both a creative look and some level of color accuracy.
There are two main film looks in this pack: Nostalgia I and Nostalgia II. Each of these looks also has a D55 version available, so you have more choices when it comes to the look of your grade.
Also included is an original Rec.709 conversion LUT. These can be used as a starting point for the creative LUTs. They are especially useful for flat LOG footage as they provide a standard conversion before or along side the creative look.
Sony S-Log3 and Canon C-Log3 footage can be converted quickly with believable skin tones. Apple Log footage from an iPhone can also be given a more cinematic look without the need for fully manual grading.
Features
Two Film-Inspired Creative Looks
The collection provides Nostalgia I and Nostalgia II, giving you two different starting points for creating a film aesthetic. Both looks include two variants, including their D55 versions.
Having multiple variations makes it easier to select a look that complements the lighting, colors, and mood of each scene rather than forcing the same treatment onto every shot.
Original Rec.709 Conversion
Nostalgia III Blackmagic includes an original Rec.709 conversion LUT. It provides a reliable base for converting supported LOG footage into a standard viewing space while preserving a natural foundation for further grading.
This can significantly speed up workflows where you need to move from flat camera footage to a finished-looking image quickly.
Natural Skin Tones and Accurate Colors
One of the main goals of these LUTs is to create a film look without sacrificing believable colors. Skin tones remain an important part of the image, making the collection useful for interviews, portraits, weddings, fashion content, commercials, and narrative projects where people are prominent in the frame.
LUTs for On-Set Monitoring
The package also includes an In-Camera Rec.709 monitoring LUT. This allows filmmakers to preview a more representative image while shooting rather than monitoring only the flat LOG signal.
Seeing a closer approximation of the final image on set can make decisions about lighting, exposure, wardrobe, and production design easier.
Works With LOG, RAW, and Rec.709 Footage
The LUTs can be applied directly to supported LOG/RAW workflows. Versions designed for Rec.709 clips are included as well, so you are not limited to footage captured in LOG.
This makes Nostalgia III Blackmagic practical for projects combining footage from professional cinema cameras, mirrorless cameras, drones, and smartphones.
Six LUTs for Every Camera System
For every supported camera system, the collection provides six LUT options:
- Nostalgia I — 2 variants
- Nostalgia II — 2 variants
- Nostalgia Rec.709
- Nostalgia Rec.709 — In-Camera
This structure keeps the workflow straightforward while still providing enough variation to adapt the look to different projects.
Wide Camera Compatibility
Another useful aspect of Nostalgia III is its support for numerous popular camera color spaces and LOG formats.
It is compatible with Blackmagic Gen 5, Canon C-Log2 and C-Log3 with Canon Cinema Gamut, Sony S-Log3 with S-Gamut3.Cine, DJI D-Log with D-Gamut, and Fujifilm F-Log and F-Log2 with F-Gamut C.
Support also extends to Leica L-Log / Rec.2020, Nikon N-Log / Rec.2020, Panasonic V-Log / V-Gamut, RED IPP2 / Log3G10 / REDWideGamut, and Apple Log / Rec.2020 on iPhone.
Standard Rec.709 footage is supported too, making the LUT pack useful even when your clips have already been converted or were not recorded in LOG.
Where Can You Use Nostalgia III Blackmagic?
Imagine shooting a short film using a Blackmagic camera and wanting to establish a consistent cinematic character across dozens of shots. Instead of constructing the entire look individually for every clip, Nostalgia III Blackmagic can provide the visual foundation, leaving you more time to fine-tune exposure and individual scenes.
For travel filmmakers using DJI cameras or drones, the LUTs can quickly give flat D-Log footage greater character. Content creators shooting Apple Log on an iPhone can similarly move toward a film-inspired result without developing a complicated grading workflow.
The LUTs can also be useful for interviews and commercial productions where maintaining realistic skin tones is just as important as creating an attractive overall grade.

Tips for Getting Better Results
A LUT works best when the footage going into it is properly prepared. Before applying your chosen Nostalgia look, check the exposure and white balance of your footage. A consistent starting image generally produces a more predictable result.
Try both Nostalgia I and Nostalgia II instead of automatically using the same LUT for every project. Different lighting conditions, locations, wardrobe colors, and skin tones may respond differently to each look.
It is also worth treating the LUT as a starting point rather than the entire grade. After establishing the film look, make smaller adjustments to exposure, contrast, saturation, and shot matching when necessary.
When working on set, the included monitoring LUT can help you preview the intended direction while retaining the flexibility of recording LOG footage for post-production.
A Faster Route to a Consistent Film Look
Nostalgia III Blackmagic packs Rec.709 conversion, monitoring options, wide camera support, and creative film looks into one streamlined LUT solution.
This LUT is excellent for achieving a cinematic feel while still preserving accurate skin and color tones. It is ideal for projects that require a certain cinematic look but don’t want to overly stylize the image. Versions are available for many popular LOG formats as well as Rec.709 footage, so it can be applied across iPhones, drones, mirrorless, cinema, and other cameras.
Nostalgia III Blackmagic is great for colorists and filmmakers who are under time constraints and need a film inspired look quickly set up, but still want the ability to apply a creative touch and further color grading.
