Color can completely change the mood of a film. A scene may already have beautiful lighting and composition, but the right color treatment can make it feel warmer, more elegant, nostalgic, or dramatically cinematic.

This tool is a collection of five carefully crafted LUTs created in partnership with Flame Films. The collection focuses on warmth, polished skin tones, elegant colors, balanced contrast, and sophisticated cinematic character.

Instead of building every grade from scratch, filmmakers and editors can use Marble as a creative starting point and quickly establish a consistent visual identity across their footage.

What Is Marble and What Does It Do?

This product is a cinematic LUT collection designed for Rec.709 footage. LUTs, or Look-Up Tables, modify the relationship between colors and tones in an image, allowing editors to quickly create a particular visual style.

For example, a neutral shot can be transformed into a warm and earthy cinematic scene, a clean and vibrant modern image, a soft pastel composition, or even a warm film-inspired black-and-white look.

The collection includes five primary looks:

• Marble 01 creates creamy blush tones for skin, beautiful greens, clean whites, and a subtle peach character. It is especially useful when you want natural-looking complexions with harmonious colors.
• Marble 02 moves toward warmer, earthier colors with darker and more muted tones. Rich colors, stronger contrast, and clean whites help textures stand out while maintaining an organic cinematic appearance.
• Marble 03 focuses on clean, bright, and realistic colors. Vibrant tones, strong blacks, and excellent clarity make it a good choice for footage that needs a fresh and sophisticated modern finish.
• Marble 04 introduces softer pastel colors and a delicate blush effect. Its subtle treatment can be particularly helpful with harsh lighting where untreated footage might otherwise appear overly contrasted or washed out.
• Marble 05 provides a balanced black-and-white treatment with gentle warmth in the highlights. The result has a timeless, film-inspired character reminiscent of classic photography and cinema.

A Flexible LUT Collection for Filmmakers

One of the strengths of Marble is that it does not limit you to five fixed looks. Along with the five Primary LUTs, the package provides corresponding Isolated Color and Isolated Contrast LUTs.

These additional LUTs allow you to separate elements of the look and combine them in different ways. This makes it easier to customize the final grade instead of simply applying the same complete effect to every shot.

Getting Better Results with Marble

Most often, LUTs work best as part of a color grading workflow rather than as a way to replace color correction in post-production. A LUT will generally produce better results if it is applied to a corrected video clip than one that has not been color corrected beforehand.

With Log footage, it is helpful to convert the footage to the appropriate color space prior to applying the creative LUT. Marble is best used with the Rec.709 color space and works with Gamut BaseLUTs to perform a Log-to-Rec.709 conversion. Thus, the creative LUT can be applied to transformed footage rather than flat Log footage.

It is also worth experimenting with the intensity of the LUT. Often a strong look from the LUT is not required for all projects. Using a reduction of the strength of the applied grade will help to retain the original footage while still incorporating the warmth of Marble.

Finally, the Isolated Color and Isolated Contrast versions of Marble allow for even more flexibility in adjusting the project. For example, if a project loves the color palette of one of the Marble LUTs, but desires to reduce the contrast of the footage, these versions will allow for that customization of the LUT.

Finally, always evaluate the skin tones, highlights, and deep shadows within your footage after applying your LUT. Even small adjustments to the footage’s exposure or white balance can make a big difference.

A Polished Starting Point for Cinematic Color

The Marble LUT set allows filmmakers and editors to quickly preview several different cinematic color palettes without having to create each one from scratch themselves.

Each of the LUTs within the set ranges from the creamy skin tones and greens of Marble 01 to the earth tones of Marble 02, the vivid colors of Marble 03, the pastel tones of Marble 04, and the warm tones of Marble 05. Each of the LUTs also includes additional isolated color and contrast LUTs to provide more flexibility in editing projects, as well as Rec.709 compatibility for easy integration into most editing software projects. Overall, then, this LUT set is a great starting point for those looking to create their own cinematic footage.
