Glacier Keys: Cinematic Piano Harmonics: The continuation of our highly famous "character pianos" collection. Beautiful piano harmonics in glistening luster played on a stunning Steinway D concert grand. Deep sampling in a concert venue with different microphone perspectives. Created to work with the no-cost Kontakt Player with the modern television and film musician in the back of mind.
Glacier Keys is a collection of piano harmonics that are played on a Steinway D concert grand and recorded in stunning detail in a contemporary concert hall. Harmonics are created by gently pressing a finger into one of the strings. The string produces the pitch of an octave higher than the note that is natural to the string. The result is stunning glass-like tones ideal for neo-classical music, ambient and minimalist compositions, or any other situation in which you require an instrument with an evocative, more sparkling sound than the usual.
While this is an extended technique library, we've taken extra time and effort to make it as accessible as we can. It can be played in the same manner as a normal piano. It is programmed to make middle C sounds similar to middle C, despite the fact that the actual key that created this note is an octave lower. We also placed the close mics farther left than usual, so they are centered around the middle C.
It was recorded inside a contemporary concert hall using a range of 14 high-end microphones (from DPA, Coles, Neumann) placed around the piano as well as further behind in the room. Based on the microphone's signals, we made three mixes that are easy to use (Close Mid, Far, and Close) that give the possibility of creating your own mix to meet your requirements regardless of whether you're looking for an unrefined studio sound or a more spacious sound that is located in the background of the mix.
Mechanical Sympathetic Resonance and Sounds
Similar to previous piano library libraries we've gone the extra mile and recorded the specifics of the instrument that go beyond the notes. You are able to control how much mechanical sound is generated when you release the keys as well as when the sustain pedal is employed. In this library, we came up with a way to isolate the sympathetic resonance of the pedal and allow us to control how much resonance is produced while the pedal's turned down. This implies that the sympathetic resonance will be generated in the event that the pedal has been pulled while notes are already being held instead of just notes that are played following the pedal has been pressed.
Atmosphere Layers
Again, we've revived our most popular "Atmosphere Layers" - playing pads and textures that combine with the piano's raw sound beautifully.
- " Glisten' layer is made by slicing metallic instruments and providing a shimmering, long-lasting effect.
- " Frost' layer is a changing reversed granular texture that is made by processing recorded piano notes in their raw form.
- "The ' Thaw' layer is a smooth pad that was created from feedback generated by electric guitars, processed by the FX chain.
